Video games

Conception of the idea of the video game

Once considered all the specific requirements it’s creation will include the next process:

1
Design

In this step, all the elements that will compose the game are detailed, such as the script, history, concept art, sound, programming design, etc.

2
Planning

In this step, the tasks necessary for the execution of the video game are identified and distributed among the different components of the developing team.

3
Preproduction

During the preproduction step, the project is assigned to a small team, to verify the feasibility of the idea and approach the final product.

4
Production

Here all the tasks specified in the planning phase are carried out, such as coding the program, creating sprites, tiles and 3D models, recording sounds, voices, music, and creating tools to accelerate the development process, among others.

5
Testing

Generally this step is performed in 3 stages:
Physical test, Alpha tests and Beta tests

  • Physical test: are performed by the designers and programmers. They create Prototypes that simulate different events that may happen in the game. A physical prototype can be made on paper, index cards, or even be acted out. The objective is to play and perfect this simplistic game model before a programmer, producer or graphic artist take part in the project. In this way, the game designer receives instant feedback on what the game players experience and can determine if they are achieving their goals.
  • Alpha tests: are performed by people in the development team to correct serious defects and improve playability characteristics.
  • Beta tests: are performed by an external team of players where the video game must have the least possible minor defects and no medium or critical defects.
6
Maintenance

Once the game reaches its final version (RTM) and it is published, no new errors or possible improvements are ruled out, so all the possible information from the players must be collected to make the appropriate changes and improve the game in all its aspects.

Corrections or improvements reach users in the form of patches or updates, which may sometimes include new features of the game.
